Vocational, technical training to transform Ghana’s economy - Prof. Yankah

The Minister of State, in charge of Tertiary Education, Prof. Kwesi Yankah, says skills development in Vocational and Technical training is what will transform Ghana’s economy and reduce unemployment. 

He said Science and Technical education are key on government’s agenda as the most important academic discipline that will help in the transformation of Ghana’s economy.

Prof. Yankah was speaking at the 9th Congregation of St. John BOSCO’s College of Education in Navrongo in the Upper East Region. 

He said government intends to expand Technical and Vocational opportunities at both Secondary and Tertiary levels and thereby strengthen the linkages between education and industry.

Prof. Yankah said the move will give opportunities to the youth to deploy their skills and create businesses for themselves and others.

He charged the graduands to accept postings to deprived communities. 

The Upper East Regional Minister, Rockson Bukari, said  more than 54,000 students admitted into the country’s Colleges of Education last year are enjoying allowances.

The Regional Minister reminded the graduands that the stakes are high for them to deepen quality basic education. 

Mr. Bukari challenged them to be determined and dedicated to their chosen profession and make a difference wherever they find themselves. 

He appealed to the chief of Navrongo, the Navro-Pio, to help find a lasting solution to the long standing litigation over the school land which is affecting teaching and learning. Robert Batuuro was adjudged the overall best student.
